CEO Martin Klässner clarifies some current issues in an interview with the “Flottenmanagement” magazine.
Today’s fleet managers face numerous challenges, e.g. future diesel driving bans or ever-increasing fuel prices. As a result, the topic of electromobility and its impact on fleet management is being debated hotly. Some companies with fleets are already evaluating it as an option. More often than not, the debate is marred by many ambiguities and open questions concerning range, efficiency, and administrative expenditure in terms of billing.
Nowadays, all journeys can be managed electrically without problems. A fleet conversion from burners to electric vehicles does not impose any restrictions, as long as it is well thought-out and planned. Corporate fleets usually consist of a mixture of vehicles intended for long distances and those that travel less than 200km per day. This affords a company an opportunity to convert its fleet gradually, thus gaining first experiences and allowing the deduction of forecasts for the full conversion. An essential advantage is the saving of costs through the elimination of operating costs for the vehicles and more attractive electricity costs due to higher purchase volumes. Depending on the country, there are also often tax bonuses, such as the possible input tax deduction for electric fleets in Austria which otherwise only applies in the passenger transport segment.
The challenges of fleet electrification depend on the size of the fleet: the larger the fleet, the more details need to be considered, such as the connected load. In this context, a mixture of alternating and direct current charging infrastructures is just as important as an intelligent load management system. Therefore, one should determine a comprehensive load profile, i.e. the power consumption of the premises depending on the time of day, in order to avoid bad investments. Another challenge for large fleets are local load management solutions connected to storage systems or photovoltaic systems – but even in such cases there are already suitable solutions where we can provide support.
We offer solutions for companies with few vehicles, but especially for businesses with larger e-fleets. Generally speaking, we also offer advice on the use of technology. The great advantage: instead of stand-alone solutions (i.e. complete solutions consisting of hardware and backend at an initially low cost), we rely on flexible solutions that can be expanded or adapted at any time.
